Eco Friendly >>>

As an eco friendly company we have made a conscience decision to use gas converted vehicles for our fleet where possible, we have not only found that our fleet is much cheaper to run saving us about 90% in cost comparison. Gas at most suppliers is 51.9p per litre yet Unleaded is about 110.9 pence per litre. Our vehicles are much cleaner as the gas is a much cleaner fuel for the environment also saving us on oil as the carbon deposit usually found in engine oil is greatly reduced. The black you find in your oil is not mainly metal grindings but the carbon which blows past the rings in our engines into the sump diluting the oil.

Environmental homes play a major part in reducing our carbon foot print and as a result every body should be aware of all the options. This page is dedicated in helping you to make a judgment on what eco friendly additions you should include within your project. Please be aware that one eco improvement may work wonders in one particular project but not so well on another.

Before installation of a new eco addition such as solar heating you should first take every step to insulate your home to prevent heat loss. There is a balance between ventilation and insulation and it is not always the case that you should seal every orifice as a home with many people living in it will require more ventilation than a home with just one occupant. A tell tell sign if you home is poorly ventilated is daily condensation on double glazed windows or mildew staining at the top of bedroom walls especially in the corners.

As a environmentally conscious building firm we are very glad to receive estimation requests for eco builds.

Wind Turbine

Many options are available including the popular Wind save model which claim to produce 1kw of power, available from BQ as an installation package.

Wind turbines are a great asset to reduce carbon emissions but not necessarily cost effective. If the wind turbine is an option for your home it must be purchased at a low cost to reap a suitable saving in a short period of time and the larger diameter sails are a must. You should research wind turbine as there is plenty of useful information especially if you are capable of building an unit for your selves.

You will need to speak to your planning authority as some councils are not so enthusiastic as others even though environmental targets set by the government are demanding.

Solar Heating

Solar heating panels are a great way to reduce load on the boiler generally these may require planning if installed on the front of your property as some are obstrusive

Solar Panels

Not yet a cost effective way to gain natural power due to the equipment cost but can be useful to charge a storage battery system.

Heat box convection

This is a very simple and cheap way to increase the latent temperature of a room. The idea is based on the principle of drawing air from a room them heating it through convection behind glass them re entering the room.

Ground heat / Heat pump

Below the surface of the ground the latent temperature increases and this free energy can be harnessed to reduce boiler dependacy.

Light tunnels

These are great to introduce natural light into areas such as basements or other poorly lit areas.

Insulation

This along with ventilation this should be on everyones list of eco improvements. There are many new inovative products available such as Thinsulex that gives very high thermal insulation per mm and can help when space is an issue and we always offer it now on re roofing contracts due to it's massive thermal benefits and simple installation. Thinsulex TLX Silver is the first multi foil insulation awarded a BBA Certificate, there is now a very similiar product Gentex that has also been awarded the BBA.

Beco Wallform can be a cost effective way to improve insulation during construction. These clever expander polstyrene blocks lock together and then filled with concrete to form perfect walls.
